reference photo- wide expanse of generally featureless water, bright day, 
outline drawing, mask edge of whites, first washes using warm tones for top sunshine, horizon haze and nearby shore. Mixture of Cobalt, Raw Sienna, Crimson Red, and splash of Cerulean 
foreground mixture of Venetian Red, Raw Sienna with Burnt Sienna/Cobalt darks for tidal debris and wet area along shore 
wet sky/horizon line and brush with both Raw Sienna, Cerulean running to Cobalt in the distance 
Create some water patterns - more ruffled in the foreground. Drop in some warms in the foreground water area to represent view through water to sandy bottom 
darker tones of sails in shadow 
bright colour in the sailors' clothes 
strong darks of the boats, dark skin tones in the bright light, shadows light, warm and airy 
extra darks on the water to help the composition 
applied a cool wash over distant water to help it receed more. extra darks in the reflections, another dab of stronger colour on the shorts. Matted and signed - "Rigging the Boat"
